Rosh Hashanah Dates 2020 - When this sun goes down on September 18th and the first star appears, Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year, will begin. The celebration lasts two days and will begin the year 5780 in the calendar of the community. His name means "head of the year."
The date is established according to rabbinical Judaism and commemorates the creation of man. To celebrate it, the shofar is played in the synagogues, a horn that acts as an instrument of ceremonial air and is played in the morning prayer. Therefore, "Yom Truá" (the day of the shofar touch) is also another way of referring to this time of year.
During the nights, families dine with typical dishes of the community, such as an apple with honey, representing a sweet life.

These meetings are practiced not only by the most religious but also by those who conceive of Judaism as a cultural identity and this celebration is a time to get together as a family.
Rosh Hashana also begins the 10 days of repentance that culminate with Yom Kippur, the day of forgiveness, which this year will be from the afternoon of Tuesday, October 8 until the sun sets the next day. Unlike the new year, fasting is practiced on this date.
