Rosh Hashanah 2017 - History & Traditions | Jewish New Year



Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah 2017) - The day of shouting is yet to start “Yom Teruah,” and it is considered as the very first High Holiday year for the Jewish community. However, the reason being a celebration of “Rosh Hashanah” has two different scenarios one is getting away from the regular work, and the second is a celebration of the beginning of Barley Harvest.

Why Is Rosh Hashanah Celebrated For Two Days

If you ask “Why does Rosh Hashanah last for two days” to any Jewish person or community across or inside the Israel country, below are the points you are probably going to hear from them.
  • Tishrei also spelled as Tishri is the first month of Civil Year (according to the given calendar system, it is the start of New Year's Day and also end of the New Year's Day) and the seventh month of ecclesiastical year (basically referred as start of the months and festivals) in Hebrew Calendar.
  • Also, the term “Tishrei” month is named as Babylonian, a month that will last for 30 long days.
  • Jewish around the world celebrate Rosh Hashanah festival for two days long because the first day of the Jewish year begins at Sundown and will last for 48 hours. 
  • As per the reference, the first day of the Rosh Hashanah will start with Ram’s Horn blowing and the successive day as an observance.
However, originally the beginning of the New Year is celebrated due to the fact and uncertainty about of predicting of which day the sighting of the new moon. So, this is how the Tishrei is started. Most importantly, the people of Israel avoid accidental work if any on this festival day.

According to the Torah, it was said that to observe the holy day of Yom Teruah which is also called as “Day of Shouting.”
